‘The Curse of Oak Island In a Rush’ and we’re recapping the season 9 episode ‘A Boatload of Clues.’ So, what happened? Ready yourselves, as this is described as an incredible week. A new borehole has started searching for the chamber. The 3D blops from last week revealed it finds mud, air, and two tiny bits of eelgrass, so now they’ve changed their mind. It’s not a chamber, it’s a flood tunnel, so I guess the 3D blobs were not that reliable after all.

Then, we’re in the swamp where Gary refers to the first clump of mud as a ‘spicy meatball’ and then refers to their activity as ‘getting boggy with it.’ You know it’s a great episode when this is what I’m choosing to recap. They find a lumber bit, a wooden trapezoid ‘something,’ and two planks that might have been oars. You know, for a burned treasure ship, there sure seems to have been a lot of fireproof parts.
It’s time for a war room meeting with Lee Spence, a marine archaeologist who may or may not have been the one who discovered the location of the Confederate submarine the H.L. Hunley. May or may not, you ask? Go read the Wikipedia article on the finding of the Hunley. It’s a pretty interesting story, so much so that I probably spent more time reading up on that than watching them talk about the wood bits.

He identifies the paddle as maybe a paddle, the ship plank as maybe a ship plank, a wood pin as maybe a fid for splicing ropes, and the wooden trapezoid thing as a wooden trapezoid thing. In conclusion, his guesses match their guesses. Scientific dating on two wood bits finds the trapezoid thing maybe from 1683 to 1735, and an unidentified wood something from last week maybe from 1680 to 1740.
And finally, lot 32 metal detection finds a coin. But, as there were so many other intriguing finds this week, we’ll have to wait until next time to learn more. Tune in next time when the finding of a five-sided piece of wood does away with the Oak Island curse because it’s a hexagon. Geometry jokes! That’s what I’ve got to make today.
